E3 Sealed Ethernet Service access Nodes (Sealed ESANs)

Delivers Advanced VDSL2 Services in Flexible Form Factor Optimized for Remote Node Deployment

The Calix E3 family of sealed Ethernet Service Access Nodes (Sealed ESANs) provides communications service providers (CSPs) with new, flexible options for offering high bandwidth, advanced VDSL2 services at an increasingly strategic point in the evolution of the access network – the remote node. The environmentally hardened and sealed E3 family provides extensive flexibility, including a variety of mounting options and remote or -48VDC powering options that allow deployment virtually anywhere. Fiber-fed and ready for an "all-video world," the E3s support multiple standards-based gigabit Ethernet (GE) uplinks, providing the flexibility and capacity to support increasingly bandwidth-intensive services and high broadband services uptake. As strategic extensions of the E-Series, the E3 sealed ESANs are based on already field-proven technologies, built with the same core system design found in the entire E-Series product family, including the widely deployed layer 2 Ethernet switching model with advanced layer 3 service awareness.

E3-12C – Optimized for Hard-to-Reach and Low Density Environments

The E3-12C sealed ESAN features a low profile, low port count design that allows it to fit in a variety of specialized locations – on a pole, in a manhole, in a low-profile "dog house" enclosure, in an underground vault, at the curb, or at an apartment complex. Capable of supporting both remote and -48VDC powering options, the E3-12C can be used to fill gaps in the broadband network with advanced broadband services that may have seemed unreachable for physical or economic reasons.

Adding to its flexibility, the E3-12C features 12 ports of VDSL2 and full-rate ADSL2+ fallback compatibility, with bonding and integrated H.248 or SIP VOIP. It also offers a robust Ethernet switching fabric for layer 2 switching (for simplicity) with layer 3 service awareness (for security). Up to two gigabit Ethernet (GE) uplinks can provide dedicated, incremental uplink capacity – preparing the access network edge for bandwidth-intensive unicast services, such as high definition video on demand (HD-VOD).

This architectural approach also allows for remarkable topology deployment flexibility. You can deploy the E3-12C in ring, or point-to-point Ethernet, or as a linear daisy chain – using the same E3-12C at any point in your Unified Access Network. This approach allows the E3-12C to dramatically simplify network engineering and product sparing – same product, any location.

E3-48 – Optimized for Higher Density, High Bandwidth Deployments

The E3-48 sealed ESAN is designed for rapid deployment of advanced copper-based broadband services and optimized to meet the needs of higher subscriber density.

In addition to the features shared by the E3 family, it features:

  • 48 VDSL2 ports with bonding and full ADSL2+ backward compatibility
  • High capacity uplinks – dual standards-based 10GE uplinks and quad GE / 2.5GE uplinks
  • Uplink ports enable deployment flexibility – ring, daisy chain, point-to-point
  • A variety of mounting and powering options – local and remote
  • Broad transport topology support – rings, daisy chains, and point-to-point
