Why Cloud Integration Is Key to an Effective Broadband Assurance Strategy

For a broadband assurance strategy to be effective, it must be implemented across your entire organization. It must be embedded into the tools used by operations teams, customer support, and field technicians—and each system must integrate and communicate with the other. Using a platform, broadband service providers (BSPs) can implement such a framework using the latest cloud technologies.

Calix Cloud® on the Calix Broadband Platform integrates broadband assurance capabilities across IT, operations, customer support, and marketing. This enables end-to-end data collection, actionable analytics, and workflows across departments, creating the foundation for a comprehensive broadband assurance strategy.

As a part of this, we’re constantly introducing new capabilities that enable proactive network monitoring and reporting. For example, recent Calix Operations Cloud enhancements include:

  • Greater control over optical line terminal (OLT) port capacity threshold-crossing events. With the ability to set negotiated port capacity thresholds—rather than relying solely on what the port can support—operations teams can fine-tune network health reporting and perform more accurate capacity planning.

  • Deeper insights into subscribers in multi-dwelling units (MDUs). Using tools such as advanced geo-mapping and proactive network monitoring and reporting, operations teams get deeper visibility into the experience of individual subscribers. Even different subscribers on the same optical network terminal (ONT) in a multi-dwelling environment can now be isolated to determine their service status and performance.

Streamlining Processes via the Cloud

By harnessing the power of these cloud-based technologies, operations and support teams can simplify processes and quickly access actionable insights about key network events that affect subscribers, services, and systems. By taking this proactive approach, operations teams can often identify and address issues before they impact subscribers.

One service provider doing just that is MidSouth Fiber in Texas. By integrating Operations Cloud with their billing system, MidSouth introduced a revolutionary new system for detecting and reporting network outages and service disruptions—dramatically reducing the volume of inbound calls to their service centers. They alsouse the full suite of Calix Cloud solutions to streamline processes across their operations, support, and marketing teams—driving significant efficiency gains across the entire business.

These real-world examples underscore the transformative potential of integrated broadband assurance and demonstrate how comprehensive, cloud-based solutions can drive efficiency and enhance service delivery throughout the organization.
