CityFibre Adds Brain to its Fiber Brawn Powering the UK’s Most Advanced Broadband Network with Calix AXOS

SAN JOSE, CA – September 6, 2018 – Calix, Inc. (NYSE: CALX) today announced a strategic partnership with CityFibre to deploy the world’s only Software Defined Access (SDA) operating system (OS) across its fiber networks. The implementation of the Calix AXOS platform will allow CityFibre to emerge as the UK’s only advanced-intelligence, wholesale infrastructure company. This partnership future proofs their capability to deliver 10 gigabit services to every home and business, with the potential for speeds of up to 100 gigabits in the future.

Once deployed, the Calix AXOS platform will enable CityFibre to deliver a truly open-access, Software Defined Networking (SDN) ecosystem, supporting any customer implementation from legacy OSS/BSS systems to end-to-end SDN implementations. CityFibre’s AXOS enabled network will provide carrier, mobile operator, and ISP customers with unprecedented levels of programmability, network intelligence, and automation as well as superior, differentiated product and service experiences to end users.

This industry leading capability, delivered across a modern full fiber network designed and built to serve all verticals, is expected to help fuel innovation in NG-PON2, 5G, and Artificial Intelligence, as well as autonomous and IoT technologies. In turn, this will speed the deployment of smart homes, smart businesses, and smart cities.

“In Calix we have found a like-minded ally, an innovator that is pushing the boundaries of what is possible when intelligent software meets fiber-only infrastructure. Our partnership enables us to unleash the full power and potential of our fiber networks, creating the nation’s fastest, smartest and most accessible, digital communications platform,” said Greg Mesch, chief executive of CityFibre.

“The ability to scale services up to 100 gigabits per second, while driving customer experience to new levels, highlights the inadequacies of connections that are passed off as fiber today. It also shows that not all full fiber networks are equal and that, as an alternative network builder, CityFibre’s commitment to the UK’s digital future goes far beyond simply putting fiber in the ground,” Mesch added.

The combination of AXOS and the Calix E9-2 Intelligent Edge System opens a world of possibilities for new service introduction while delivering unprecedented operational efficiencies to CityFibre. Intelligent analytics, remote management capabilities, and advanced automation tools will enable the reduction of network costs, simplify operations, and optimize both partner and subscriber experience for years to come.

“The Calix and CityFibre visions of a software defined access future are perfectly aligned. CityFibre built its network from the very beginning to take advantage of all that a fiber infrastructure can enable, while we built AXOS with the intelligence to take that foundation to the next level,” said Michael Weening, Calix executive vice president of field operations. “With AXOS, CityFibre can more rapidly deliver new products, services, and features to the market, further distancing itself from legacy competitive offerings that fail to enable true market differentiation. As we continue to innovate on the AXOS platform, the continued speed, agility, and efficiencies we enable will allow CityFibre and its partners to change the UK’s broadband market forever.”
