Two-Factor Authentication
Calix offers two-factor authentication for its online experiences; get better protection, data security
Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a security measure that increases protection of online accounts by reducing the vulnerability to cyber attacks.
Two-factor authentication (2FA), also called 'two-step verification,' is the most common form of MFA.
Calix offers 2FA for its secure online experiences, including for Calix Cloud and the My Calix portal.
This page provides information about 2FA, why it’s important, and how to set up an app for two-step authentication on your calix.com account.
What is two-factor authentication?
Two-factor authentication uses two steps to verify your identity instead of one. Login involves entering your password and a one-time verification code sent to an authorized device.
Using two different factors of verification makes it more difficult to hack your account, reducing risk of unauthorized access. Most 2FA services use two of these three identity factors in combination:
- Something you know: password or answer to a security question
- Something you possess: device you carry (ex: a mobile phone)
- Something you are: biometric information (fingerprint, face scan)
Calix 2FA employs (1) something you know, plus (2) something you possess. After entering your login password, you must also enter a one-time code sent to an authenticator app on your mobile phone.
Supported authenticator apps
Many identity authenticator apps are available in the iOS and Android app markets. Calix uses a standards-based 2FA implementation, so any standard authenticator app should work with Calix, allowing you to use your preferred app instead of a pre-selected one by Calix.
For your convenience, the following widely-adopted authenticator apps have been verified to work on calix.com.
Okta Verify is a common 2FA app used by enterprises that use Okta SSO.
Duo Mobile is another 2FA app commonly used by enterprises.
Google Authenticator is a widely adopted 2FA app from Google.
Microsoft Authenticator is a widely adopted 2FA app from Microsoft.
LastPass Authenticator is a widely adopted 2FA app from LastPass.
Okta Verify is a common 2FA app used by enterprises that use Okta SSO.
These apps provide a single-use numeric code for each login attempt. (One-touch push notifications are not yet supported by the Calix 2FA solution.)
